By Plane

The fastest way from Istanbul to Cappadocia is by flight. Pre-purchased tickets are cheaper. Several daily direct flights provide Istanbul. Flying from Istanbul to Nevşehir-Kapadokya Airport (NEV) or Kayseri’s Erkilet Airport takes you to Cappadocia.

Turkish domestic flights are more expensive outside Turkey; book through a trusted travel agent or the airline’s website. Private guides, hotels, and rental cars are also available from Turkish travel companies.

By Bus

Long distance busses are the cheapest way from Istanbul to Cappadocia. However, the ride is long 10–12 hours and 730 km (454 miles). Turkish busses have air conditioning and adjustable seats, making the long ride comfortable. Due to the long journey, taking the night bus is the best way to travel by bus.

By Car

It takes 8 hours to drive the 730 kilometers (454 miles) from Istanbul to Cappadocia without stops. Car rental and gasoline expenses are most affordable if some people share them. The traffic leaving Istanbul is a nightmare, but once you’re out of the city, the road winds through some breathtaking mountain scenery.

Getting from Istanbul to Cappadocia by Plane: Which Airport is better?

Nevşehir or Kayseri airport? This is the decision you make. Two airports operate flights. Kayseri to Cappadocia is 71 kilometers and an hour. Kayseri airport has more flights, so you’re more likely to find cheap or open-date tickets.

Havaş connects both airports to Cappadocia’s central cities of Goreme-Uchisar-Ürgüp and Avanos. If your hotel provides a transfer, it should know when your plane will land before you arrive. When you get off the plane, cars are at the door.

A taxi ride to your hotel costs 800 TL on average. You can also purchase airport transport.
